Birthday Photo Collage Maker — Free and Online

A birthday collage usually has one job: show how the person has changed, or show the party from several angles. Those two need different layouts. For a "years gone by" collage put the photos in chronological order and use an even grid so each year gets equal weight. For a party recap, use a hero layout with the cake-cutting photo large.

The Birthday template uses white polaroid borders on a warm cream-to-pink gradient. The white border is doing real work — party photos are usually busy and colourful, and the white gap stops them bleeding into each other.

Decide early whether this is a screen post or a printed poster. They are not the same job: a poster wants six large photos at A4, while a post wants nine to twelve smaller ones. Setting the canvas afterwards re-flows everything you have arranged.

Recommended canvas size

1080 × 1080 px (square)

Square suits a grid of equally important photos and posts everywhere without cropping. Switch to 2480 × 3508 (A4) if you plan to print it as a poster for the party.

How to make it

  1. Upload the photos For a year-by-year collage, upload them oldest first — the grid fills left to right, top to bottom.
  2. Apply the Birthday template Celebrations tab, then Birthday. It sets the canvas, background, polaroid borders and adds cake, balloon and confetti stickers.
  3. Edit the headline Replace "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" with the name and age. Montserrat Bold stays readable even when the collage is viewed as a small thumbnail.
  4. Move the stickers Drag any sticker, or delete the ones you do not want. Add more from the Overlay Sticker Bundles panel.
  5. Export Ultra HD PNG for sharing, 300 DPI PDF for printing.

Tips that actually change the result

What usually goes wrong

Resizing the canvas after arranging

Changing the preset re-runs the layout. Pick square, 4:5 or A4 before you start moving photos around.

Putting a faded scan next to a fresh phone photo

The contrast difference is jarring. Raise contrast on the old one and apply Fade to the new one so they meet in the middle.

Text below about 2% of the canvas height

It survives on your screen and turns to mush after social compression. Keep the headline large.

Using the party's worst-lit photo as the hero

The hero cell is the largest and least forgiving. A slightly duller but sharp photo beats a dramatic but blurry one there.

Questions

How do I make a birthday collage with the person's age as the shape?

Use the Number style in the Styles tab. Type the age into the "Number / word mask" box in the Templates panel, then apply it — every photo is clipped into the digits.

How many photos for a birthday collage?

For a party recap, six to twelve. For a year-by-year collage, one per year works well up to about twenty-five; past that use the 100 Photos style, which is built for high counts.

Can I print it?

Yes. Set the canvas to A4 (2480 × 3508 px) and use the 300 DPI PDF export, which is what print shops expect.
