Make a Diwali Photo Collage Online
Diwali produces more photos than any other week of the year — rangoli in the morning, diyas at dusk, sweets, new clothes, the whole family on the terrace watching fireworks. Posting twenty separate pictures buries the good ones. A single collage keeps them together and reads properly in a WhatsApp status or an Instagram post.
The Diwali template here starts on a deep indigo-to-purple gradient with a warm gold glow border on each photo, because that is what actually flatters diya and fairy-light photographs. Bright white backgrounds fight with the warm orange light in the pictures and make them look dull.
One more thing worth planning: decide before you start whether this is going out on WhatsApp status or as an Instagram post, because the two want different shapes and you cannot change the canvas halfway through without the layout re-flowing. Status is full-screen vertical; the feed is square or 4:5.

Recommended canvas size
1080 × 1080 px (square)
A square posts cleanly to Instagram feed, Facebook and WhatsApp status without being cropped. If you are only sending it on WhatsApp status, switch to 1080 × 1920 so it fills the whole phone screen.
How to make it
- Open the editor and upload your Diwali photos Six to nine photos works best. Beyond about twelve, faces get too small to recognise on a phone screen.
- Pick the Diwali template In the Layouts & Occasion Templates panel, open the Festivals tab and tap Diwali. It sets the canvas, the gradient, the gold glow border and adds diya and sparkle stickers.
- Reorder so your best photo leads Drag any photo to swap its position, or open the Layers panel and move it up. The top-left cell is what people look at first.
- Adjust the headline Double-tap "Happy Diwali" to edit it — add a family name or the year. Great Vibes and Pacifico both suit the festival better than a plain sans-serif.
- Export Export Ultra HD Image for sharing. Use the 300 DPI PDF if you are getting it printed.
Tips that actually change the result
- Diya and candle photos are usually underexposed. Select the photo and raise Brightness slightly in the Photo Filters panel rather than brightening the whole collage.
- If one photo has a harsh camera flash, the Warm filter preset pulls it back toward the rest of the set.
- Keep the gold border thin — around 4 to 6 px. Thick gold on every photo starts to look like a certificate.
- Rangoli photos are usually shot from above and are almost square. They sit best in the corner cells.
What usually goes wrong
A 1:1 collage on WhatsApp status leaves thick empty bands top and bottom, and the photos end up far smaller than they needed to be. Set 1080 x 1920 first.
Raising brightness globally washes out the sky and the fireworks. Select the underexposed diya photo on its own and lift only that.
Each face drops below roughly 150 px, which is about where a familiar face stops being recognisable on a phone. Fewer photos, larger, always reads better.
Indoor Diwali photos are heavily orange and terrace photos are blue. Apply Cool to the indoor set or Warm to the outdoor set until they sit together.
Questions
What size should a Diwali collage be for WhatsApp status?
Use 1080 × 1920 px. WhatsApp status is full-screen vertical, so a square collage leaves large empty bands above and below and the photos end up smaller than they need to be.
Can I add "Happy Diwali" in Hindi?
Yes. Add a text layer and type or paste Devanagari text. The Modern Sans font renders Hindi correctly; the decorative English fonts such as Great Vibes do not include Devanagari characters and will fall back.
How many photos should a Diwali collage have?
Six to nine. The template scales to any number, but on a phone screen faces below about 150 px stop being recognisable, and that is roughly what you get past twelve photos in a square canvas.
Is it free?
Making the collage is free. Downloading the high-resolution file needs an account, and new accounts include a free trial.
